vasini

why

Your taste. Your judgement. Your knowledge.

Why this exists, and what it refuses to do.

I have thoughts I cannot express properly. They are clear inside my head and they come out badly, and the good ones disappear somewhere between having them and being able to use them. So the first user of this product is me, and the rule I have followed while building it is simple: build everything that concerns me as a user.

The pain is not hypothetical, and it is not only mine. A colleague described his manager drawing out an entire data centre architecture on a whiteboard, the kind of explanation that is new even to senior people, and then:

“I was about to take a photo of the whiteboard, and then they erased it.”

Knowledge shared out loud is fragile. It survives only if someone decided, in advance, to capture it.

Context is the bottleneck.

A human brain can only hold so much at once, so we have always thrown context away to make room. An AI does not have that limit. It can hold all of it and act on it. Which means the value of capturing context just changed, and most people have not noticed yet.

Vasini is the layer that collects it. The scarce resource is not intelligence any more; it is the accumulated knowledge that makes intelligence useful, and almost none of it is written down.

Capture is not dictation.

This is the distinction the category keeps missing, and it is the one we are built on. Dictation is speak and act: say a thing, it becomes a message, a command, a line of text, right now. It optimises for the next thirty seconds, and the tools that do it are very good at it.

Capture is different work. It is storing something, keeping it, and improving on it over time. It optimises for the version of you that needs this in March. And it involves a decision dictation never asks you to make: when and where is this worth saying out loud?

A transcript

Raw memory. Everything, undifferentiated.

A summary

Compressed memory. The shape of what happened.

A memory layer

What sits above both: what you decided, what you believe, who is involved, and what changed since. Held apart from the recording that produced it, so it survives and accumulates.

People do not take notes because they want a transcript. They take notes because they expect their future self to need something. Notes do five jobs: remember, understand, decide, act, retrieve. The last one is the real test. Can you find the useful thing at the moment you need it?

It captures. Then it stops.

Vasini captures, organises, and stops. It is not the decision maker. The judgement stays yours; what the machine contributes is that nothing gets lost and everything stays connected. That restraint is a product position, not a limitation. Every AI product right now is racing to act on your behalf. Very few are willing to just be reliable about what you said.

A note has to be there

It should open without internet. If a vendor turns their service off, your notes should not stop existing.

The context layer is yours

The agent layer is a choice. Everything lands in an open folder you can read. Point your own agents at it, use it as a plain notepad, or plug in ours.

On device where the task allows

Most of what this product does is small, repetitive work. Your device’s compute sits idle while cloud inference gets more expensive every quarter.

No standing access to your thoughts

A thought capture tool is the most intimate software a person can run. The architecture should make constant access impossible rather than promising restraint.

One format anything can read

Siri writes to one notes app, Android does something else, and the result is fragments in five places.

What we are deliberately not building.

Not a general assistant

Build for everyone and people say “this was built for me, but what do I do with it?” A general purpose tool already exists and it is better funded. Narrow is the advantage.

Not a decision maker

The moment it starts choosing for you, the captured intelligence stops being yours.

Not real time translation

Adjacent, tempting, and a different product.

Your taste. Your judgement. Your knowledge. Preserved for life.

Everything else about this product is downstream of that sentence. The taste is what makes your work yours. The judgement is the part no model can hand back to you. The knowledge is what you have accumulated by paying attention, and it is currently evaporating faster than you are replacing it.

Vasini keeps all three, in files you own, in a format that will still open long after this app is gone.
